The Board of Medical Solutions is pleased to announce that it has conditionally agreed to acquire the entire issued share capital of Autogen Bioclear UK Limited for a total consideration of up to £6 million payable in cash.

Medical Solutions to distribute automated cytology screening system

The Board of Medical Solutions is pleased to announce that the Company is to distribute the TriPath Imaging, Inc. FocalPoint automated cytology screening system on an exclusive basis.

Cervical cancer is a major concern for many women in the UK, with over 3,000 new cases being diagnosed each year.

This automated screening technology represents a significant potential benefit to the speed and efficiency with which cervical cancer screening can be conducted, with the ultimate detection of abnormal cells, and the timely adoption of effective treatments.

Medical Solutions is pleased to be appointed the exclusive UK distributor for this automated screening technology, through its partnership with BD/TriPath for whom it already acts as the exclusive UK distributor of the SurePath liquid based cytology (‘LBC’) system which is widely used for cervical screening in the UK.

Proposed change of name to Source BioScience plc

Medical Solutions announces that it is proposing to change its name to Source BioScience plc.

The Board believes that the Company’s existing name no longer reflects the broad portfolio of activities of the group, nor the nature of its business, and that Source BioScience plc is a more appropriate name for the Company.

The change of name is conditional on shareholder approval and the Company is sending a notice to shareholders convening a general meeting for 10.00am on Monday 10 March 2008 at the offices of the Company at 1 Orchard Place, Nottingham Business Park, Nottingham NG8 6PX.

Medical Solutions to offer Empire Genomics genotyping technology

The Board of Medical Solutions plc is pleased to announce that the Company will be offering the Empire Genomics ACCUArray comparative genomic hybridization (“aCGH”) genotyping technology from its laboratories in Nottingham. The ACCUArray will be offered both as a service, as well as a product for use in the customers’ own laboratories.

This technology is a powerful tool in the identification of chromosomal abnormalities linked with a range of diseases and conditions such as certain cancers, autism and Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as a number of syndromes including Down’s Syndrome. It will have also have particular applications in children where there may be referred to a clinician with developmental abnormalities. This diagnostic test can identify whether those developmental conditions have an underlying genetic cause.

Medical Solutions will be the exclusive UK service provider and distributor for this genotyping technology, through its partnership with Empire Genomics, Inc.

Good Laboratory Practice and Good Clinical Practice accreditation

Medical Solutions is pleased to announce that following a recent inspection by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), its Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) accreditation was reconfirmed in conjunction with additional accreditation for Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

Medical Solutions is also CPA accredited for healthcare laboratory work and licensed by the Human Tissue Authority.

These accreditations ensure that Medical Solutions continues to deliver the highest quality service from its state of the art laboratories in Nottingham, Cambridge and Oxford and makes Medical Solutions the only company in the UK able to offer a one stop shop for a broad portfolio of analyses from tissue pathology to DNA sequencing and genotyping in a GLP, GCP and CPA accredited environment.

Notes

GLP accreditation provides clients with the assurance that Medical Solutions is fully licensed to undertake regulatory studies and act as a reference laboratory for pharmaceutical companies seeking compliance with the principles of Good Laboratory Practice as set out by the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development). GCP accreditation provides further assurance that all regulatory studies involving human tissue are conforming to the principles of good clinical practice that are outlined in articles 2 to 5 in the EU Directive 2005/28/EC.
Medical Solutions to offer Illumina next generation sequencing and genotyping

The Board of Medical Solutions plc is pleased to announce that the Company will be acquiring both the Illumina Genome Analyzer next generation DNA sequencing and the Illumina BeadStation genotyping platforms.

Medical Solutions will become the UK’s first commercial service provider for these leading edge systems, which it will be sourcing from Illumina, Inc.
Notification of Major Interest in Shares

The Company has been notified that Mr Jim Mellon of Galloway Limited and Titec Limited now holds a total of 11,650,000 ordinary shares in Medical Solutions, representing 5.72% of the issued share capital.
British Society for Clinical Cytology (BSCC) annual conference in Cardiff

Medical Solutions exhibited at the British Society for Clinical Cytology (BSCC) annual conference in Cardiff where a number of clinical papers, from around the UK, were presented on the SurePath™ liquid based cytology platform. These included a paper on the first UK trial to be completed using automated imaging and guided screening technology for cervical cancer screening. This trial was conducted by Cervical Screening Wales on 12,700 cervical smear samples over a six month period using the TriPath™ FocalPoint™ automated imaging platform with technical support provided by Medical Solutions. The trial demonstrated the utility of automated imaging as a quality assurance tool in the cervical cancer screening programme. The full results of this trial will be published in due course.

Additional SurePath™ LBC contract secured

Medical Solutions are pleased to confirm that Jersey NHS Trust have chosen the SurePath™ liquid based cytology (LBC) system for their cervical screening programme and have signed a three year agreement worth approximately £150,000 in total. Training with the Trust will commence in November and roll out will be rapid.

The Diagnostic Pathology team were present at the 10th International Nottingham Breast Cancer Conference to promote their range of breast cancer diagnostic tests including HER2, Top2a and OncotypeDX, the prognostic profiling tool. This gave them the opportunity to network with breast surgeons and other healthcare professionals involved in breast cancer treatment and care from all over the UK and Europe. A UK based clinical utility assessment of OncotypeDX is being planned and a number of oncologists have expressed an interest in participating.

The 15 October edition of TIME magazine presents a review of the latest advances in breast cancer diagnostics and treatment, including Genomic Health's OncotypeDX breast cancer test, the molecular diagnostic test for which Medical Solutions is the exclusive distributor in the UK.
Medical Solutions extends partnership with Oxford University and Achieves Extended ISO 9001:2000 Certification

Medical Solutions is pleased to see the expansion of its DNA sequencing activities through an extended partnership with the University of Oxford. The DNA sequencing facility previously run by the Department of Pathology has been incorporated into Medical Solutions’ Geneservice Oxford DNA sequencing laboratory, the second core laboratory to join forces with Geneservice since January. The company now has the largest commercial sequencing capability in both Cambridge and Oxford and looks forward to continued growth through similar partnering opportunities.

In addition to this, the sequencing laboratory at Oxford University has received the International Standards Organisation's (ISO) 9001:2000 certification for the provision of functional genomic products and contract research to academic and commercial research communities worldwide and to sequencing/contract research in satellite laboratories in the UK. This follows external validation by Lloyds Register of Quality Assurance (LRQA) a United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited quality certification body. ISO 9001 is an internationally recognised standard that represents good management practices and aims to ensure that organisations consistently deliver the products or services that meet their clients’ quality requirements. The achievement of ISO 9001:2000 approval reinforces Medical Solutions’ continued commitment to identify and meet the needs and expectations of its customers and achieve, maintain and improve overall operational performance and capabilities
